Fighter Squad.png The Fighter is a Melee tier 1 (heavy) infantry unit in Symphony of War. As such, they have the most hp and armour of any tier 1 unit, comparable and as such, they are the most powerful class of this tier, in most circumstances. This class is the start for the most heavy infantry and cavalry units. There are also plenty of options for this unit to become light infantry or light cavalry units, thus this tier 1 unit has the most development options out of all tier 1 units.

Fighter Strategy Fighter

Fighter Tactics

The Fighter's bulk is it's best asset, though usually it has barely enough to get by.

The main consideration with their use is whether striking 1st will eliminate enough threats and potential damage to be the winning call; or if waiting for the enemy to act (and thus enabling Guardian.png Guardian ), will result in stretching their lifespan out a little longer.

Fighter Squads

AoE Front Row Green.png The front row is the best position for Fighter to make use of, offering cover and blocking melee attacks against the middle and back rows.

AoE Back Row Green.png Until there most important purpose is amassing enough CP to promote, at which point they make a good rearguard against Minimap Rogue.png Rogue and Minimap Assassin.png Assassin attackers with their respectable Armor Armor score.

Fighter As Opponents:

In most cases fighters have barely enough HP+DEF to get by.

Attack Aggressive.png Aggressive Attack is a good way to overload their defenses and muscle through them (when researched), and making use of Bowman's ranged attacks to ware them down without counter-attacks is also a potent option; given the player can afford taking 2 squad actions to counter fighters.

Amusingly: Fighters themselves are one of the most reliable options against Fighters, baiting them in during enemy phase to make the most of their Guardian.png Guardian trait; while disabling the same trait on the aggressing squad.

For items: Steel Plate Armor.png Steel Plate Armor or Donari Armor.png Donari Armor are good options to cut down their damage, when fighters are relevant threats, with the Ruby Ring.png Ruby Ring being one of the most cost-effective option to overwhelm their defenses.

Fighter Builds Fighter

The Fighter main draw is an armor stat that's just good enough, and sees the most benefit from leaning into more bulk.

Fighter Traits

Traits with broad utility like Resolve.png Resolve, Unscathed.png Unscathed, and Warrior's Hubris.png Warrior's Hubris are good options for the fighter: or any of it's future promotions.

Fighter Artifacts

Aldor's Tower Shield.png Aldor's Tower Shield is the best +Def option avalible early game, and is one of the better artifacts for the majority of a playthrough.

Emperor's Missive.png Emperor's Missive is a noteworthy option for allowing Fighters to scale into the late-game, offering an impressive 50% DR to tier 1 units.

Add St. Teresa's Bulwark.png St. Teresa's Bulwark and Obsidian Plate Armor.png Obsidian Plate Armor; and the combined effects of Guardian.png Guardian, Emperor's Missive.png Emperor's Missive, & St. Teresa's Bulwark.png St. Teresa's Bulwark can enable taking a full volley from firearms units while significantly mitigating the hits, with Obsidian Plate Armor.png Obsidian Plate Armor boosting their Armor score up to a point they can consistently tank hits from everything else.

Fighter Affinity

Earth Earth is the best affinity for raw survivability, which is the main niche and purpose of the Fighter.
